What is SmartLipo™?
SmartLipo™ is the first and only laser-assisted lipolysis system
to offer a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure for the removal
of fat. Using a high-powered laser, SmartLipo™ is a new Laser Body
Sculpting procedure with less down time and side effects than traditional
liposuction.
How does SmartLipo™ work?
With SmartLipo, a hollow, pen-sized instrument called a cannula is inserted
into a minor incision made by the surgeon. The cannula transmits laser
energy to melt fat. A laser beam heats the fat, which ruptures the
cell membranes of the fat cells causing the contents to be liquefied.
At the same time, laser helps to coagulate the small blood vessels
in the area so there is less bruising than traditional liposuction.
Also, the effect of a direct laser on the overlying skin produces a
tightening effect. Melted fat is suctioned through a small liposuction
cannula. Because the cannula is only about 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm, SmartLipo
is a less invasive procedure, reducing the risk of bruising and promoting
a quicker recovery. In addition, the cannula’s laser acts as
a visual guide, helping the surgeon make more precise movements than
typical liposuction.
Will it work for me?
This procedure can work for most people in generally good health who
don't have contraindications for elective surgery. The best results
are usually seen in people with lower body mass who do not require
removal of a very large volume of fat - this is best done in a hospital
setting under general anesthesia. One of my most important decisions
during the initial consultation is to determine if you are a good
candidate for the procedure or not. After examining you and discussing
your goals and expectations I can usually accurately determine if this
procedure will be able to produce expected results or alternative
treatments are needed. Our consultations are free and can be
scheduled by calling V.I.P. Medispa (503) 513-5533 or e-mailing
a consultation request VIPmedispa@comcast.net.
What will happen during my visit?
Prior to your actual procedure visit you will need to schedule a consultation
appointment with the physician. During this visit we will discuss your
goals for the SmartLipo and your expectations. You will also need to
share your medical and surgical history, medications and other relevant
information. The physician will inform you of the realistic expectations
you can achieve based on your initial body state. You will have theopportunity
to watch an informational video and before and after pictures. Laboratory
tests or records from PCP may be needed depending on your health history. When
you decide to proceed with the surgery, you will be informed about
the details of the procedure, benefits, alternatives, risks and possible
complications, and informed consent for the procedure will be obtained. “Before” photographs
will then be taken and the procedure will be scheduled.
